ITAR Compliance

Defense-ready in under six months.

We prepare your systems, data flows, and access controls to meet U.S. ITAR requirements — without slowing engineering — so you can sign defense contracts and hold up under government review.

Tell us what you build and who's asking. We'll tell you what's controlled, what an enclave looks like for you, and how fast you can be defense-ready.

No sales sequence. A person reads this and replies.

What is ITAR?

ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) is the U.S. regulatory regime controlling defense articles, services, and technical data on the U.S. Munitions List. If your product or data touches defense work, you must register with the State Department's DDTC, restrict technical-data access to U.S. persons, and be able to prove it. Violations carry civil and criminal penalties — which is why primes ask hard questions before letting a startup near controlled data.

What you get

01

Data-flow mapping and enclave design

We find every place ITAR technical data would live and move, then design the smallest compliant enclave — so controls land on the data that needs them, not your whole company.

02

U.S.-persons access control

Identity, infrastructure, and hiring-process controls that keep technical data access limited to U.S. persons — implemented in your actual stack, and auditable.

03

Policies that survive review

Registration support, technology control plans, and written procedures built to hold up when a prime's compliance team or the government reads them closely.

04

Engineering speed preserved

The enclave approach means most of your engineering org keeps working exactly as before. Defense readiness shouldn't cost you your ship cadence.

How it works

  1. 1

    Map

Free readiness review, then ~1 week.

We identify what's actually ITAR-controlled in your product, trace where that data flows, and hand you a written plan: enclave design, controls, timeline, price.

  2. 2

    Implement

    Under six months to defense-ready.

Enclave build-out, access controls, DDTC registration support, and a technology control plan — implemented alongside your team without freezing the roadmap.

  3. 3

    Prove

    Before your prime asks.

Documentation, training records, and audit trails packaged for the compliance review your prime or program office will run before trusting you with controlled data.

FAQs

ITAR Compliance questions, answered

Do we fall under ITAR or EAR?
It depends on whether your technology is on the U.S. Munitions List (ITAR) or the Commerce Control List (EAR) — and the answer drives everything downstream. Jurisdiction and classification analysis is the first thing we do in the readiness review, with your counsel where a formal determination is needed.
Do we have to move everything to GovCloud?
Not necessarily everything. ITAR technical data needs U.S.-persons-only access, and U.S.-sovereign cloud regions like AWS GovCloud are the common answer — but the right design is usually a scoped enclave for controlled data, not a lift-and-shift of your whole platform. Smaller enclave, smaller bill, faster timeline.
How long does it take to become ITAR compliant?
We get startups defense-ready in under six months, including registration, enclave build-out, and the documentation a prime's review will demand. If a contract is waiting on you, tell us the date and we'll work backward from it.
What will a prime contractor actually ask us for?
Expect flow-down clauses, proof of DDTC registration, a technology control plan, evidence of U.S.-persons access enforcement, and often a questionnaire or on-site review. We prepare the package before the ask, so diligence confirms rather than discovers.
What does it cost?
We bill in 15-minute increments with an optional monthly cap, so the upper bound is fixed before we start. Enclave scoping keeps infrastructure costs down; DDTC registration fees are separate and predictable.
The contract is real. The flow-downs are real. The timeline is the only variable you control.
